Whether hiking on Minnesota’s North Shore, on Isle Royale in Lake Superior, in Yellowstone National Park or in Montana’s Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, Menogyn backpacking is an excellent way for teens of all skill levels to experience the wonders of wild places!

Backpacking campers can expect to:

Superior Hiking Trail/Isle Royale • 8 or 11 days |Single Gender Groups

Entering grades 8-10

Campers learn the basics of wilderness backpacking during six days on the Superior Hiking Trail overlooking Lake Superior or 8 days in Isle Royale National Park. Groups hike well-maintained trails in the beautiful boreal forest and camp at designated campsites. Isle Royale campers often see moose and fox, and may even hear wolves.

Campers will spend a week hiking in the Cloudpeak Wilderness Area in the Big Horn Mountain Range in Wyoming. Campers will learn the basics of mountain hiking and see some spectacular views.

Yellowstone National park • 20 – 22 days |Single Gender Groups

Entering grades 10-12

For 14-15 days, campers hike deep into the wilderness of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming or the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness in Montana. Through mixed alpine terrain, at elevations up to 11,000 feet, campers learn the skills necessary to travel in the mountains. Previous wilderness experience is required. An application is required for new campers.
