Age-Appropriate Experiences

The Y uses The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool as the foundation for creating the best programs for children.

The result is a comprehensive curriculum with a clean organizational structure and a particular focus on routines and learning experiences. Developmentally appropriate programs foster joyful and purposeful learning while they address specific needs.  YMCA Child Care Curriculum is developed from the following:

  • Specific needs and interests of the children

  • Talents and abilities of staff

  • Creative and safe opportunities to learn through play

  • Resources within the YMCA and the surrounding community

 

Enrichment Activities

A variety of enrichment activities are offered to preschool children extending their learning opportunities. Activities vary by location and age.

Language—Introductory program offering activities to explore languages like Spanish or Sign Language in diverse and exciting ways including:

  • Games
  • Storytelling
  • Songs

Kids’ Fitness—Fitness through play.

  • Builds foundation a of healthy habits
  • Encourages exercise and movement
  • Stresses importance of fitness


Swimming—Introduces children to a safe aquatic environment. Children learn:

  • Personal safety
  • Basic swimming skills
  • Songs, games and water activities

Music & Movement—Kids explore musical concepts including song, dance, rhythm, finger play and musical instruments.

  • Bridges the connection between music and movement
  • Develops large and small motor skills
  • Develops listening skills
  • Encourages self-expression
