Building Better Balance

As we age our sense of balance falters and falls account for the highest number of accidents. Our Building Better Balance program focuses on increased balance skills. This class provides a safe and effective exercise format where you will practice balance skills, reduce your fear of falling, increase muscular strength and improve posture, mobility, range of motion and gait.

Everyone has unique needs so we keep our class size is small to ensure individualized attention to your specific concerns.

A Typical Class

Class begins with simple warm-up stretches then moves to activities where participants move their upper bodies working with a ball; increasing the complexity of ambulatory tasks such as changing direction when walking; walking on a plank; turning, bending and stepping over obstacles and off a curb. Class ends with cool-down activities.

Tips + Preparation

  • New to class? Arrive a little early so our instructor can give you some pointers.
  • Warm up before stretching by walking or doing gentle movements
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Our classes are cell-phone and PDA-free environments. Please turn them off during class.

Attire and What to Bring

  • Come to class dressed and ready to move your body
  • Loose-fitting, comfortable clothing made of breathable material to allow air flow
  • Athletic shoes that provide adequate support
  • Water bottle
