Shallow Water Power

This high-intensity, low-impact water workout focuses on cardiovascular training, muscle toning, flexibility and coordination. A variety of equipment is used.

A Typical Class

Class takes place in our heated indoor pools in shallow water. The instructor leads participants through high-intensity cardio movements such as walking, jogging, kicking, cross-country ski movements and jumping jacks. Class is in an interval format.

Tips + Preparation

New to class? Arrive a little early so our instructor can give you some pointers.

Equipment Needed

  • Water fitness equipment (flotation noodles, barbells, paddles, etc)
  • The Y provides all equipment for this class

Attire and What to Bring

  • Come to class dressed and ready for the pool
  • Proper swim attire is required (swim suit), no basketball shorts, street clothes, etc.
  • Water shoes (encouraged)
  • Towel, water bottle, aqua jacket (optional)

I've been a member for at least 5 years, but this fall, I signed up for my first Adult Water Adjustment class. The instructor was patient, asking both me and the other woman in our class what our experience and comfort levels were. She set out to work with each of us on skills we were ready for.
