Swim Team

YMCA swim team is a competitive program that focuses on the development of all ages and abilities.

  • Ages: 5-18

Prerequisites:

  • Ability to swim 25 yards without stopping
  • Children enrolled in YMCA Swim Academy must have completed Minnow level or higher or in Red Cross Lessons, Level 3 or higher
  • Swimmers must be YMCA members to participate

Our trained coaches work to improve swimmers' skill level, endurance and to promote a healthy lifestyle. Our program embraces the YMCA core values and promotes progression at an individual level. There are also several volunteer opportunities to help support the YMCA swim team.

A Typical Class

Team Practice - The YMCA swim team offers up to 3 practice times a week for our beginning swimmers and more for our advanced groups.  Swimmers are encouraged to attend at least 2 practices a week.

Swim Meets - Meets are scheduled against other teams in the Minnesota State League, typically at other Y's in the metro area on Saturdays.

  • Fun exercise with other team members

Attire and What to Bring

  • Please bring photo ID when you visit the Y.
  • Come to practice dressed and ready for the pool.
  • Clothes, street shoes, diaper bags and other personal items can be stored in the locker rooms; bring your own lock and leave your valuables at home.
  • Family appropriate, clean swimsuit and swim attire is required.
  • Sandals or flip-flops are permitted in the pool area; No street shoes permitted.
  • Towel, goggles (if desired)
