Diabetes Prevention

The YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program is specifically for people who are overweight and have "pre-diabetes" or are at risk for acquiring Type 2 diabetes. It is group-based and delivered over 16, one-hour core sessions facilitated by a trained Lifestyle Coach. We’ll cover nutrition, physical activity and behavior modification. Monthly maintenance meetings follow the core sessions.

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is an evidence-based program that uses a group lifestyle intervention designed to reduce the risk of diabetes in individuals with pre-diabetes or at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. This program has been proven to cut people’s chances of developing the disease by more than half. You do not need to be a YMCA member to participate.  Click here for a brief overview of the program.

Class locations vary and are held throughout the Greater Twin Cities and Western Wisconsin.

Please contact 1-800-237-4942 to determine insurance provider eligibility.  If you are not covered by insurance the program is still available to you.  Self pay is also an option, cost for a full year access (16 weekly core sessions plus 8 monthly sessions maintenance) is $249 member/$320 non-member.  Pricing discounts available with proof of low income.

I highly recommend the YMCA diabetes prevention program for my patients. It gives them the education, tools, and support they need to change their lifestyle and have successful weight loss.
