Whether your child is finishing Kindergarten or starting in the fall, new friends will be made in a safe and fun-filled environment at Y Summer Power Kindergarten. Weekly field trips bring new adventures as zoos, museums, and parks become your childs classroom. Children explore their world through activities such as arts and crafts, outdoor play, science, nature, and group games geared to their age and development level. We provide responsible and secure supervision at all times. See the growth in your child in one short summer!

Summer Power is a super-lively, full-day enrichment program focused on quality, small group, age-appropriate activities. Kids stay motivated, entertained and are encouraged to make choices and exercise independent thinking. Each week is packed with an amazing variety of activities including multiple field trips to exciting places. Not only are the kids entertained and engaged, theyre learning new things and making new friends.
No two weeks are alike! Some of the popular things your kids will enjoy every week are:

IMPORTANT! Please read:
Richfield Site is for children entering grades 1 6 only.
Southdale Site is for children entering grades 1 5 in the fall.
Eden Prairie Sites: Summer Power participants who currently attend or will attend Cedar Ridge or Eden Lake next fall are asked to use the Eden Lake/Cedar Ridge sites.
Those who currently attend or will attend Forest Hills or Prairie View next fall are asked to use the Forest Hills/Prairie View sites.
Children who currently attend Eagle Heights Grades K 4 may attend summer power at either Eden Lake/Cedar Ridge or Forest Hills/Prairie View. The week of August 30 September 3 will be held at the elementary school that your child currently attends.
Children entering grade 1 in the fall of 2010 may use the school they will attend in the fall.
Current Kindergarten students may sign up for either Summer Power Kindergarten (located at the Eagle Heights School) or Summer Power.
Participants who will be starting Kindergarten in fall 2011 must use the Kindergarten Summer Program at the Eagle Heights School all summer.
For Eden Prairie Summer School students, the Southdale YMCA will offer our Before and After Care program.

Summer Sports is a program where everyone plays and the emphasis is on learning a sport and building skills.
Low-level competition with high-level FUN! The Sports Sampler is a fun week-long program that focuses on basketball, baseball/t-ball, floor hockey, soccer and great field trip! Each week includes a variety of games, swimming and a sports-related field trip or surprise guest, plus a fun play day with other Ys. Everyones a winner at YMCA Summer Sports!
$180 5 days per week, Full Day Option

Deposit $50 per child, per week, non-refundable. Deposit is credited toward weekly fee. Weekly fee includes all field trip admissions and program supplies.
Summer Sports Specialty Programs#
Choose from a variety of sports and improve your skills during one of our week-long specialty sports programs. Each sport focuses on skills, drills, workshops and scrimmages in a low competitive environment. Weekly sports related field trips are one of the many features. In the morning, participants focus on the specialty sport. After lunch, participants join the Y Summer Sports program for activities, games and swimming.

Golf
During the week each golfer will learn about proper grips, stances, and alignment for setting up for a great shot. We will practice on a local golf course where golfers will have an opportunity to work with golf course staff to improve their driving, chipping and putting. Bring your own golf clubs, however clubs are available if needed.

Soccer
Improve your soccer skills! Learn to play every position and the basic skills and techniques of soccer. The staff will work your child on ball-control, passing trapping, shooting and defense. Participants have the option of bringing your own shin guards and plastic cleats. The week also includes a field trip to the Minnesota Thunder soccer game.

Baseball
The Southdale YMCA staff will work on developing and improving your skills throwing, catching, pitching, hitting and running the bases. During the week you be given an opportunity to practice your skills through scrimmages and games. The highlight of the week is a field trip to the Twins baseball game.

Basketball
If you love basketball and want to improve your skills, join us on the court for an action- packed week! Practice your passing, dribbling, shooting and defensive skills through drills, and workshops, and put them to the test during scrimmages and games. The program also features a Minnesota Lynx basketball game.

Tennis
This is a two week program where you will develop and improve your tennis techniques and skills. You will have an opportunity to work on your forehand, backhand, serving, anticipating the ball and play strategies. Play a set or two as you learn the rules and its unique scoring during the 2.5 hours of instruction each day. Participants are encouraged to bring their own racquet, tennis balls are provided.

Flag Football
Play every position and learn the basic offense and defense skills including catching, passing, tackling the flag, punting and tee kicking. The focus is on teamwork, sportsmanship and learning the game of flag football without contact or tackling. This week will be topped off with a trip to the Vikings Training Camp!

Summer Sports Extreme Skate #
Full week (5-day) option only.
Offered: July 12 16
$260 per week (full-day option) $140 per week (half-day option)
One time, non-refundable deposit of $50 per week per child includes a program T-shirt and will be applied to the weekly fee. Weekly fee includes all field trip admissions and program supplies.
Skateboarders and in-line skaters:
Feel the freedom of the wind in your face as you skate along on your roller blades or skateboards at the Tri-City Skate Park! You will be transported from the Summer Sports site to the YMCA Tri-City Skate Park where you will spend 2.5 hours each day learning and developing new skills such as ollies, pushing, pumping, riding fakie, and carving and dropping in! The Tri-City Skate Park features a concrete bowl snake design with street course elements on the side, and depths ranging from 4 to 11 feet. Instructors will set up practice courses where you can test your abilities. The remainder of the day is spent with the Y Summer Sports Program.
Safety gear will be required for all participants. You will need your own skates or skateboard, helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads. Signed waiver forms are required by all participants.

Summer Uproar#
High-spirited adventures result in growth experiences for youth.

Summer Uproar is a full-day, experience-based enrichment program that encourages older kids to explore their ever-expanding world, increase understanding, build independence and have a boatload of fun. Uproar brings a multitude of character development experiences to kids through community involvement, leadership activities, team building exercises, goal setting and more! Days are filled with super field trips, outings to amusement and water parks, and in fun group activities that exercise the body, challenge the mind and nurture the spirit of our youth.

The Uproar program will be held at Oak Point Intermediate School during the week of August 30 September 3.

Summer Sports Leaders-in-Training #
Entering grades 7 8 in fall, 2010
Offered Monday Friday
Session A: July 12 30
Session B: August 2 August 20
$340 per hree week session (no half-day options)
Rise to the challenge of Leaders-in-Training and discover the leadership qualities within you! During the leadership training, LITs will learn and develop skills needed to lead sports camp activities. This program will focus on personal development areas such as: Building Confidence, Time Management, and Activity Planning. You'll have opportunities to demonstrate and strengthen your skill level in each of these areas, while shadowing experienced camp counselors, and assisting them for several days in the various sport activities and leadership roles. There will also be plenty of time for hanging out with friends old and new. Come join the leadership team and experience sports from a whole new perspective!
