Y Summer Sports Sampler#

Energize your child's summer with Y Summer Sports! Y Summer Sports is a program centered on the development of sports fundamentals and skills. Each participant will be able to practice and play sports including: basketball, baseball/t-ball, floor hockey, and soccer. Sports Sampler nurtures the YMCA's four core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. With these objectives and values in mind, it is our goal to create a safe, fun, and low-competitive environment which encourages teamwork, leadership skills, and the building of strong self-esteem.
Y Summer Sports is a program designed for all skill levels; whether learning how to play a new sport or refining existing skills, each child is a winner at the YMCA! Each week, through recreational play and sports-related field trips, each participant will be provided an opportunity to experience the joys of athletics and to learn the importance of sportsmanship.

Y Summer Sports Soccer
For youth entering grades 3 - 6 in the fall.
One time, non-refundable deposit of $50 per week per child includes a program T-shirt and will be applied to the weekly fee. Weekly fee includes all field trip admissions and program supplies.
Improve your soccer skills! You'll learn ball-control skills such as passing, trapping, and shooting, plus, you'll have the opportunity to play every position. Experience the fun and excitement of soccer during practice drills and game scrimmages in a non-competitive environment. The week also includes a field trip to a Minnesota Thunder soccer game. Participants have the option of bringing your own shin guards and plastic cleats.
After lunch the soccer participants will join the rest of the Y Summer Sports group with their activities, which includes group games and swimming.

Y Summer Sports Golf
For youth entering grades 3 - 6 in the fall.

Practice your swing while chipping and putting your way to golf success! Learn about proper grips, stances, and alignment for setting up great golf shots. Our week includes practice at a local golf course. Golfers are encouraged to bring their own clubs, however there will be some available for use if needed. After lunch the golfers will join the rest of the Y Summer Sports group with their activities, which includes group games and swimming.

If you love the game of basketball and want to improve your skills, join us on the court for an action-packed week! Practice your passing and shooting skills through workshops, drills, scrimmages, and games. The program also features a Minnesota Lynx basketball game.

Y Summer Sports Flag Football
For youth entering grades 3 - 6 in the fall.
One-time, non-refundable deposit of $50 per week per child includes a program t-shirt and will be applied to the weekly fee. Weekly fee includes all field trip admissions and program supplies.
Explore flag football in a safe and non-competitive environment. Learn basic offense and defense skills including catching, passing, kicking, punting and tee kicking during practice drills and game scrimmages. Learn and play all positions, including quarterback! No tackling or contact. Our focus on teamwork, sportsmanship and fun means everybody plays and everybody wins!
After lunch, the flag football participants will join the rest of the Y Summer Sports group with their activities, which includes group games and swimming.

Wind up for a challenging week of baseball! You will work on improving your skills with plenty of practice batting, pitching, throwing, and running bases. You and your team will put it all together and play a series of games. The highlight of the week features an outing to see a Twins game!

Y Summer Sports Tennis
For youth entering grades 3 - 6 in the fall.
Two Week Session
One time, non-refundable deposit of $50 per week per child includes a program T-shirt and will be applied to the weekly fee. Weekly fee includes all field trip admissions and program supplies.
Explore the fundamental techniques of tennis while you work on a variety of skills and drills, such as forehand, backhand swings, serving, anticipating the ball and basic play strategies. Work out your skills on the court playing a set or two of tennis as you learn the rules and its unique score keeping. You will receive 2.5 hours of tennis instruction each day. Participants are encouraged to bring their own racquet. Tennis balls will be provided.

Y Sports Leadership#
Y Summer Sports Leaders-in-Training
For youth entering grades 7 - 8 in the fall.
Offered Monday through Friday
(no half-day options)
Rise to the challenge of Leaders-in-Training and discover the leadership qualities within you! During the leadership training, LITs will learn and develop skills needed to lead sports camp activities. This program will focus on personal development areas such as: Building Confidence, Time Management, and Activity Planning. You'll have opportunities to demonstrate and strengthen your skill level in each of these areas, while shadowing experienced camp counselors, and assisting them for several days in the various sport activities and leadership roles. There will also be plenty of time for hanging out with friends - old and new. Come join the leadership team and experience sports from a whole new perspective! Y Summer Sports Extreme Skate
For youth entering grades 3 - 6 in fall

Skateboarders and in-line skaters:
Feel the freedom of the wind in your face as you skate along on your roller blades or skateboards at the Tri-City Skate Park! You will be transported from the Summer Sports site to the YMCA Tri-City Skate Park where you will spend 2.5 hours each day learning and developing new skills such as “ollies,” “pushing, pumping,” “riding fakie,” and “carving and dropping in!” The Tri-City Skate Park features a concrete bowl snake design with street course elements on the side, and depths ranging from 4 to 11 feet. Instructors will set up practice courses where you can test your abilities. The remainder of the day is spent with the Y Summer Sports Program.

Y Extreme Skate Camp Drop Off and Pick Up Location

Safety gear will be required for all participants. You will need your own skates or skateboard, helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads. Signed waiver forms are required by all participants. Waiver forms will be available at the Richfield Middle School on your child's first day.
Tri-City Skate Park#
Drop in to the YMCA Tri-City Skate Park! Located at the Southdale YMCA, the Tri-City Skate Park opened to rave reviews in October of 2003. The skatepark was designed and constructed by Grindline, a leading skatepark developer.
The YMCA Tri-City Skate Park is a partnership between the Southdale YMCA and three local cities including Edina, Bloomington, and Richfield. It is located at the Southdale YMCA (7355 York Avenue South). The Southdale YMCA is responsible for programming, operations, and staffing.
The YMCA Tri-City Skate Park accommodates skateboarders, in-line skaters, and free-style bikes. The concrete bowl snake design has street course elements on the side and offers enough variety to accommodate a range of skill levels with depths ranging from 4 to 11 feet.
The mission of the YMCA Tri-City Skate Park is to create a safe, positive, and structured environment where skateboarders, in-line skaters, and freestyle bikers can enjoy their sport and gain exposure to the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Tri-City Skate Park Skateboarding Lessons
Individual Lessons
Cost: $30/per 1-hour session
Are you interested in skateboarding, but want to take your ability beyond the driveway? Work one on one with a Skateboard or Rollerblade Instructor to improve your skateboarding or rollerblading skills and ability. We ask all participants to have the basic skill to push a skateboard and glide 20 feet or more with no aid. All participants must provide their own equipment which includes skateboard, helmet, knee and elbow pads.

Cost: $40/per 2-hour session
Each class has one Instructor per six children and are two-hours sessions taking place over he course of one or two weekends.

Whether your child is finishing Kindergarten or starting in the fall, new friends will be made in a safe and fun-filled environment at Y Summer Power Kindergarten. Weekly field trips bring new adventures as zoos, museums, and parks become your child's classroom. Children explore their world through activities such as arts and crafts, outdoor play, science, nature, and group games geared to their age and development level. Uproar provides an exciting combination of spirited adventures and growth opportunities that challenge the mind and stretch the body! The staff counselors provide character development opportunities to encourage independence and responsibility.
