The Y Summer program offers safe, flexible, all day affordable options for your child(ren) entering grades K 8.
Summer at the Y Base Program
$25 dollars a day!

Transportation provided to and from for all Summer School Participants.
Certified Staff in CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse and Risk Management.
Exciting activities in a safe, quality program for children entering grades K 4 and grades 5 8.

Drop off: 6:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.

Find a summer filled with adventures right here. The Summer at the Y program is a lively, full day enrichment program focused on quality, small group, age-appropriate activities. Trained YMCA staff keeps kids busy, entertained and motivated while they are encouraged to make choices to suit their interests. Every week is planned with an amazing variety of activities and experiences including field trips to exciting places and swim time, too. Your adventure-loving kids will enjoy learning new things and making new friends.
Registration Fee $50 per child, one-time fee, non-refundable, includes a program t-shirt. Weekly fee includes all field trip admissions, open swimming and program supplies.
NOTE: A detailed schedule of activities and field trips will be available at the Hastings Area YMCA.

Your child can now have it all when they choose from an exciting menu of add-ons to make their days even better. These activities get kids out of their comfort zone and learning valuable skills that build self-confidence. Choose from 1-day, 2-day and 5-day options of specific activities that address your childs special interests in depth.
1-DAY Options

Cant keep those feet still? Learn the all types of dance from certified dance instructors. Participants will learn everything from Hip Hop to Latin Dance and choreography.

Let your personality shine through by signing up for Theater/Drama. Kids will learn skits, plays and even try their hand at improve. At the end of this 3 week option, well have a fabulous show that all family and friends can attend!
Journalism/Creative Writing

Kids will learn a variety of writing techniques through creative games and exercises. The group will put together their very own Summer at the Y newspaper including their favorite pieces!
Outdoor Adventure

Campers go to Camp St. Croix break out into age appropriate activities including, kayaking, sailing, canoeing, low ropes and high ropes course, bouldering, horseback riding, archery, hiking, orienteering, games and camp songs.
Fishing
Grades 5 8 in fall, 2010
Weeks of July 5 July 19
From baiting the hook to catching the big one, young anglers learn basic fishing skills and safety from this areas seasoned fishermen. Fishing adventures, from a pontoon boat and shoreline, take kids to nearby rivers and lakes to learn and practice one of Minnesotas most popular lifelong sports. Bait is provided. Bring your own pole and tackle.

Focus in and capture the moment. Learn about composition, light, shadows and taking pictures from interesting vantage points as you take a wide variety of pictures. The results are amazing! Photographers will have a chance to put their work in the Summer at the Y newspaper! Bring your own digital camera equipment.
Video Gaming

Weeks August 16 and August 23
Experience a new way to play video games! Exercise your mind and body playing games such as Dance Dance Revolution and Wii Nintendo. The focus is on fun and healthy games, no extreme or violent content.
Summer School
Discover new adventures after the summer school day! This program provides loads of fun activities and exciting field trips following summer school classes. Enjoy swimming, cookouts, arts and crafts, fun games, and more!

Summer Sports#
Learn new sports, build sports skills and have fun playing! Everyone plays and the emphasis is on learning a sport and building skills. Low-level competition with high-level FUN! Choose one sport or the Sports Sampler (where you can play them all). All weeks will include a sports related field trip or guest speaker!

Golf
Tee up a great time! Enjoy the great lifetime sport of golf while you learn technique and practice skills. Area golfers are on hand to teach and coach young golfers. Sessions are held at the Y and at a local golf course.
Learn from the Pros. The YMCA has teamed up with Gopher Hills Golf Course to provide a complete golf package. Golfers will learn the skills of the game from one of two professional golf instructors. Each participant will have the opportunity to hit on the driving range, play several rounds of golf throughout the week. No matter if you are just getting started or would like the extra practice, this is the ultimate summer golf experience. No equipment necessary.
Golf I - Little or no experience.
Golf II - Some experience and is comfortable on a golf course.
Golf III - Experienced golfers will play up to 9 holes everyday.
No instruction will be given to Golf III participants.

The Hastings YMCA offers a day camp experience at Dakota County Spring Lake Park Reserve in Hastings.
Start your preschoolers love affair with the great outdoors by enrolling him or her in Wee Backpackers! From the moment campers arrive each day, counselors guide them through traditional camp experiences including hiking, nature study, and arts and crafts. They will have opportunities to savor the wonderful flavors of outdoor cookouts, sing songs, tell stories, meet new friends, and more. All activities are geared to show your preschool camper the wonders of nature. Wee Backpackers is carried out under the watchful eye of counselors trained to meet the needs of young campers. We maintain a staff to child ratio of 1:6.

Take YMCA Swim Academy group swimming lessons in the summer. Small class sizes ensure student-centered swim instruction. YMCA certified instructors use a nationally recognized learn-to-swim curriculum.
