Summer Power Preschool #

For children ages 3 - 5 years old

One-time, non-refundable registration fee of $50 per child.

Qualified teachers lead 3-, 4-, or 5-year-old children in activities that will help prepare them for their school years. Based upon a weekly theme, your child will learn to write, count, sit and listen, follow directions, interact with other children, recognize and express feelings, and use words to solve conflict. They will also make friends and have fun as they sing songs, participate in arts and crafts, nature studies and much more. See the growth in your child in one short summer as they encounter new people and experiences with the YMCA! Variable schedules offered, including 2-, 3-, or 5-day options.  Summer Power is your answer to quality care and exciting adventures for your child this summer. We offer a full-day enrichment program with flexible 3-, 4-, and 5-day options. Kids enjoy their day in age-appropriate groups and participate in activities such as arts and crafts, group games, sports, and weekly field trips, under the guidance of our trained Y staff. The program offers different themes as they explore nature, science, sports, technology, and more. Water parks, zoos, museums, major sporting events, amusement parks, and regional and local parks are just a few of the field trip adventures. Register for one week or the whole summer!

Mini Sports is a terrific introduction to our Summer Sports program! Participants will enjoy learning skills and drills while developing confidence in their abilities. Please note that children must meet the age requirement by the start of the program. Registrations are limited to 15 participants, so register early!

Y Summer Sports #

For youth entering grades 1 - 6 in the fall.
Note: Sports, Games and Curriculum 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Summer Sports is a safe, fun, low-competitive program designed to build teamwork, sports skills, and self-esteem. If you can't decide which week to come, choose our Sports Sampler week where you can participate in all the sports! Whether learning how to play a new sport or refining old skills, each child is a winner at the YMCA! Each clinic includes a sports related field trip. At the end of the week, show off your skills in a fun scrimmage with other YMCAs!

YMCA and Jr. Achievement's Finance Park #

For youth entering grades 7 - 9 in the fall.
One-time, non-refundable registration fee of $50 per child

Program Hours: 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Extended Care: 6:30 - 9:30 a.m.; 3 - 6 p.m.

The YMCA and Junior Achievement have partnered together to offer Finance Park. This unique program gives middle grade students an opportunity to develop personal money management skills, acquire personal finance knowledge and prepare for financial decisions and challenges in their adult lives. Participants will be introduced to personal finance and career explorations through four days of classroom instruction and one day of hands-on experience where they apply what they've learned. Activities include decision-making in family situations, visits to businesses to gather information for their personal financial decision-making, and learning how to use bank services; contribute to charities; purchase housing, transportation, furnishings, food, health care, and other expenses; and make investment decisions, while working to balance their budgets.

YMCA & Jr. Achievement's Biztown #

For youth entering grades 4 - 6 in the fall.
non-refundable $50 deposit per child.

Program Hours: 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Extended Care: 6:30 - 6 p.m.

The YMCA and Junior Achievement have partnered together to offer Biztown. This unique, one-week experience places you in a role to discover, investigate and become productive citizens in a life-size replica of a real city. During the first four days, participants will “run the city” by operating the bank, post office, radio station, snack shop, city newspaper, city hall, and retail shops. Learn fist-hand what it takes to create and sustain a business, supervise employees, manage income and expenses, and hold an elected office. Participants will also learn to manage personal finances, such as writing checks and book keeping. The highlight of the week is a trip to Biztown in Maplewood where you will apply your learning and run a life-size replica city for the day!

Y Summer Uproar #

For preteens and teens entering grades 5 - 9 in the fall.

One-time, non-refundable registration fee of $50 per child includes T-shirt. Weekly fee includes all field trip admissions and program supplies. Three days per week minimum required.

Program Hours: 6:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Uproar provides an exciting combination of spirited adventures and growth opportunities that challenge the mind and stretch the body! Exciting field trips, group activities, and local amusement and water parks are among the many fun things to do at Uproar. The staff counselors provide character development opportunities to encourage independence and responsibility.

4-on-4 Summer Boys Basketball League #

Registration Deadline: TBD
Division 1: Entering 4th or 5th Grade (Wednesdays)
Division 2: Entering 6th or 7th Grade (T & TH)
Division 3: Entering 8th or 9th Grade (T & TH)
Division 3: Entering 10th, 11th, or 12th Grade (T & TH)

Teams with mixed grades will be placed in the division that represents the oldest member of their team. Division 1 games will be played on Wednesday. Divisions 2, 3 and 4 games will be played on Tuesday or Thursday (one game per week).

Y Summer Extreme #

Each week of Y Summer Extreme focuses on a challenging theme designed to get you out of your comfort zone and into an unforgettable adventure! Learn valuable skills and build self-confidence from any of our high adventure Extreme weeks.

A $50 non-refundable deposit per week for Y Summer Extreme

Extreme Cuisine

For teens entering grades 6 - 9 in the fall.

Participate in a week of culinary adventure! You will not only learn about food preparation, but food safety, presentation, etiquette, and menu planning also. At the end of the week, grab your apron because you will be planning and preparing a formal luncheon for your invited guests. Each participant will have the opportunity to invite two adults to enjoy a gourmet luncheon prepared and served by you and your Extreme Cuisine chefs.

Skateboard/In-Line Skating (Recreational)

For teens entering grades 6 - 9 in the fall.

“Catch some air” and learn why this is one of the fastest-growing sports around! Each day, participants will visit a different wheel park where you can test your balance, weight transfer, board handling, and surface maneuvers. If you are up for more thrills and skills, take the challenge! Safety gear will be required for all participants. Bring your own skateboard or in-line skates, and safety equipment including a helmet, knee and elbow pads, and wrist guards.

Extreme Sampler

For teens entering grades 6 - 9 in the fall.

This program gives participants a taste of some of the most popular Summer Extreme Program: rock climbing, water sports, challenge courses, scuba diving and cuisine. We will be indoor rock-climbing at Vertical Endeavors, participating in a challenge course with both high and low initiatives and work our culinary magic in the kitchen.

Rock Climbing

For teens entering grades 6 - 9 in the fall.

Strike out on a bold adventure of rock climbing at the Y's Rock Climbing. You'll begin your adventure with 3 days of indoor training at the Vertical Endeavors retail store and training center. Experienced climbers and instructors will teach you about equipment use, footings and grips, belay techniques, knot tying, movement strategies, and climbing safety. The last two days of the week, all of your training will be tested by experiencing outdoor climbing at spectacular Taylors Falls. Climbing and safety equipment will be provided.

Water Sports

For teens entering grades 6 - 9 in the fall.

Bring an extra set of dry clothes because in this program you'll be fully-immersed in water sports and activities.
Each day brings new water experiences “soaked” in adventure such as canoeing, sailing, and much more!

Outdoor Survival Skills

For teens entering grades 6 - 9 in the fall.

The first two days of this program will be spent teaching hands-on basic outdoor skills: orienteering, cooking, tent set-up, building a fire, safety, and identifying plants and animals. Wednesday through Friday we will be heading out for
a two-night camping adventure. Participants will be involved in the entire camping experience - campsite preparation, menu preparation, supplies and activities, meal preparation, etc.

Rock Climbing Overnight

For teens entering grades 6 - 9 in the fall.

Experience all of the fun and excitement of our Rock Climbing program, with the added adventure of an overnight! After climbing at Taylors Falls on Thursday, we will settle into a nearby campsite for the night. We'll get an early start climbing on Friday to complete our expedition.

Mountain Biking

For teens entering grades 6 - 9 in the fall.

Dust off your pedals and bring out your helmet as we explore the best mountain biking trails in the Twin Cities. Each day we'll head to a different trail around town, including Lebanon Hills, The Minnesota River Bottoms, and Terrace Oaks Park. Participants will also learn important safety tips for the trail, including first aid, riding etiquette, and bike repair. Bring your own helmets and mountain bikes (no BMX bikes allowed!).

Digital Photography

For teens entering grades 6 - 9 in the fall.

Focus in and capture the moment! Spend two days traveling throughout the Twin Cities area exploring picturesque surroundings and interesting subjects to capture on film. Learn about composition, light, shadows, and taking pictures from interesting vantage points as you take a wide variety of pictures. This experience will also give you an opportunity to gain knowledge about computer enhancement and creative display. At the conclusion of the week, you will display your best work at the Summer Extreme Photography Art Show for others to enjoy. Individuals are encouraged to bring their own digital camera equipment; we will have limited access for those without a digital camera. Fees include supplies for display.
