Volunteer

Take an active role in strengthening our community by volunteering at the Y.  Your time and talent go a long way with us and helps to create a safer, more viable community that's a good place to live and work.

Community Events

  • Midway Halloween Party Celebrate fall! Come lend a hand at Midway’s famous Halloween Party.
  • Holiday Tree Lot Join the Y-Service Club for their annual Holiday Tree Lot fundraiser, raising money for the YMCA and sharing the holiday spirit! The tree lot runs annually from the Friday after Thanksgiving through Christmas.

* Kids Stuff 

Department supervisor: Elizabeth Friend, Member Services

  • Kids’ Stuff Assistant - Work with children ages 6 weeks to 10 years in the Y’s drop-off day care center.

* Maintenance and Housekeeping

Department supervisor: Phil Imsdahl, Maintenance

  • General cleaning - Work with staff in our YMCA building to keep it looking great!
  • Yard work and gardening – Help with our flower beds, shrubs and bushes during the spring and summer months.

 

Member Services

Department Supervisor: Jessica Henry, Member Services

  • Administrative Assistant- Provide office support- file, prepare mailings, prepare marketing packets, etc.
  • Gym Monitor- Monitor gym activities on the evenings and weekends, maintain security and safety in the gym, hallways and locker rooms.

Aquatics

Department Supervisor: Sam Blue, Aquatics Director

  • Assistant Swim Instructor- Assist instructors and help supervise swimmers during Swim Academy classes.

Youth Development

Coordinated by the Urban Youth Department and Child Care

  • Youth in Government – Serve as a program advisor or a guest speaker to facilitate experiential learning about law and government or chaperone youth at Conferences (Sept-March)
  • Multi-Cultural Achievers – Serve as a guest speaker on career paths, mentor youth in the program or serve on the adult steering committee. (September-June)
  • Leader’s Club - Be a guest speaker and talk with teens about leadership and service or assist with service projects.
  • Child Care – Provide care for students before and after school and on school-release days. (September-June).
