PHD:  A Wellness Program for Kids

Through PHD: Physical, Healthy and Driven, we are leading the movement in teaching urban youth in the Minneapolis area how to stay healthy for life. Using a unique combination of assessment tools, fun games and exercises, nutrition education and family involvement, PHD is empowering local children aged 6 - 17 to get active and be well.

The University Y's PHD program was first launched in Fall of 2009, and has since expanded to meet the need of the community by offering weekly programming at four area sites. Most recently, PHD has added an innovative treatment curriculum that serves urban youth struggling to manage their weight in the 98th percentile of obesity. PHD's unique approach to a well-rounded health and wellness education helps to engage students of all ages in a fun and exciting way.

We currently have over 30 volunteers serving over 100 youth at two different sites. Our partners include:
