Y Buddies

Y Buddies is a student-run volunteer program through the University Y.  Collegiate Allies are matched with 3rd through 6th graders in the Twin Cities that benefit from a positive role model, safe out-of-school activities, and exposure to higher education.

Become a Buddy   |   Already a Y Bud?

As a Y Buddy, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Attend mentor training seminars—we like to keep them upbeat and fun, so don’t think seminar=lecture!
  • Spend one hour per week with your "Little Buddy" doing activities of your choice.
  • Attend monthly Big Group Events—free/low-cost activities such as rollerskating, bowling, attending the Holidazzle Parade, and visiting the Como Zoo.
  • Participate in all University Y sponsored events—2 per semester.

If you are a reliable, dedicated, and outgoing volunteer who wants to build your resume, connect with other students, gain leadership experience, and make a lasting impression on a child’s life, contact us!  The commitment averages to be about 4 hours per week – but the impact you make in a kid's life will last much longer!
