It may seem odd that a person like me is a fitness director – but I believe my health concerns have allowed me to be a more compassionate, empathetic trainer/instructor. I don’t have a long list of successful triathlon’s or ascended summits. Oh believe me, I want to and I always believed I would - until in my 30’s I learned that I have Fibromyalgia. Those goals had to be set aside and replaced with smaller goals of keeping moving and as active as possible. It was at that same time in my life I discovered my true passion – working with Seniors. The best part of my day is working with my senior friends, helping them achieve successes like improving balance or building lower body strength.

I have been working for the Y since 2007 and truly believe I have the best job in the world. I personally love the feeling you get after a good workout and enjoy helping others experience it. Since working at the Y, my clients have ranged in age from 12 to 85. One of the things I enjoy the most about being a trainer at the Y is the variation each day brings. Every individual is different. I enjoy the challenge of helping each individual form realistic goals and then helping them achieve those goals. The achievement I see on a daily basis motivates and inspires me to continue to choose healthy lifestyle choices in my own life.

“Stacy energized to me start exercising and to start running. I had no hope of ever running and now I can't stop. She used strong but friendly encouragement and her endearing personality which included laughter and a real cooperative teamwork experience. She believes in me. Stacy has helped me overcome mental and physical boundaries. I cried with joy as I crossed the finish line of my first 5K race and hearing Stacy's voice cheering for me will never be forgotten.”

Education | Certifications | Specialties:

NETA (National Exercise Trainers Association) certified Personal Trainer, YMCA Pilates Reformer Instructor, Kettlebell Training, TRX Training, Get Fit Boot Camp, Get Fit Club

I am a long time Y member who is living my dream of sharing my love of fitness with others through personal training. Through my various career endeavors, fitness has always been a constant. When I became a personal trainer, it was a natural transition to work at the Y. I enjoy connecting with people at any stage of their fitness journey. I specialize in fitness as a way of life and fitness for the “non-athlete”. I get great satisfaction from seeing the “light go on” when my clients see the power of putting all the pieces together to achieve their fitness goals. I also love teaching specialty classes in TRX and Kettlebells. I am a 3+ year breast cancer survivor and thus have personal insight into the physical and emotional challenges of diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, and rehabilitation. In my spare time I like to spend time with my active family, workout, read and sew. My favorite motto is “Strong is the new beautiful.”

I started at the Y in April, 2011. I graduated from Luther College with a B.A. in Exercise Science and Health. I discovered my love for personal training during a summer internship at Lifetime Fitness, where I learned she could combine two of her favorite things, helping people and fitness. After college I spent a brief time working for Lifetime Fitness. Then I truly began my fitness career at the fitness centers on the 3M campus, where I worked for 4.5 years before coming to the Y.

I enjoy training people of all ages and ability levels, from the teenage athlete, to the senior who has never exercised. I enjoy helping people reach their goals by teaching and encouraging my clients to do things they never thought you could.

“Sam has truly been a life saver for me! I was starting a spiral into over-eating and gaining a lot of weight - I met Sam and that all changed! Sam is not only an excellent trainer, but she is also an inspiration. She has a way that gets you to go beyond what you even thought possible. She is able to assess the person on all levels and work with them to achieve their goals.

Through Sam's experienced training skills, I was able to lose 30 pounds in under 12 months. I cannot walk down the hall without someone telling me "Wow - you look great! Keep it up!!" All because Sam believed in me - knew that I could handle more every week and was there for me when I needed her to push me and she did it all by encouragement, enthusiasm, strength and positive attitude!  I continue to work on my goals and think of Sam every day!  Thanks, Sam, you are the best!"

I started working with Jean in July 2010. I cannot say enough about the difference in my life that Jean has made. My goal when I started working with Jean was simple; become healthier, lose some weight, and find a holistic balance in my life. I started this adventure at the Y a bit apprehensive. This was not the first time I had joined a gym, and I knew from past experience that just joining was not enough. I needed someone who would help me through my health goals, motivate me, and of course keep me accountable. Someone who would say “you can do one more” (and boy does she) . Jean has not only developed a program especially for me, but has also given me the confidence to know that I really can do it! Without a shadow of a doubt, working with Jean has been the difference between success and failure. My success is directly related to Jean's commitment to me.
