The YMCA Difference

The Y Difference

Everything about the YMCA is unique. And your results will be far different than you’ll find at any other health facility in your community.  The Y is where you really belong. The Y cares about you as a person and as a valuable member of this community. The Y’s difference is its commitment to helping you bring together your most powerful trio – body, mind and spirit – to realize your wellness and personal balance goals.

YMCA Mission

The mission of the YMCA of Metropolitan Minneapolis is to develop the total person-spirit, mind and body-through character development programs that build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.  The mission of the YMCA of Greater Saint Paul is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

YMCA Values

Four words, powerful values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. These are the values at the foundation of the YMCA. They guide the Y’s programs, services and people.

CARING: Your goals and needs come first here. The Y truly cares about the  wellbeing of you and your family at every touchpoint.
HONESTY: The Y insists on utmost honesty with every interaction. Honesty  results in positive relationships and helps you reach your goals.
RESPECT: The Y is here to serve everyone with nothing but the utmost respect  for the individual.
RESPONSIBIITY: The Y exists to serve you and the community with programs and services that you find valuable and with results that you asked for. The Y takes its responsibility to its members seriously.

Commitment to Diversity – Welcome to All

The YMCA is a membership-based organization and welcomes women, men, girls and boys of all ages, races, ethnicities, religion, sexual orientations, abilities and financial circumstances. The Y takes its cue from the communities it serves to reflect its unique needs through offerings to members.

Commitment to Connection – Body, Mind, Spirit

From its earliest history, the YMCA has encouraged a healthy, balanced life.  In 1889 Dr. Luther Gulick, a YMCA pioneer in the field of physical education, brought that idea of balance to life in the creation of the Y’s famous red triangle logo. It represents man’s well being as dependent “on an essential unity of body, mind and spirit.”

Today, the YMCA is driven by the belief that a healthy life encompasses physical, spiritual, mental and spiritual wholeness. That special combination promises you real results.  Learn more

Commitment to Community

For over 143 years, the YMCA has played a significant role in the communities it serves. It remains a non-profit organization committed to meeting local needs. Among the programs it offers are:
  • Health and fitness options for all ages, backgrounds and economic levels
  • Youth development initiatives (including free after school programs for children in low-income and at-risk urban areas)
  • Activities for seniors
  • Child care options to support working families
