Group Exercise classes for kids and families
Introduce your kids to fitness fun through high-energy, fun classes the whole family will love. We offer a wide variety of classes that focus on strength, stamina, cardio, dance, yoga and water exercise.
Family-friendly Fitness Center
The Fitness Center at each YMCA includes exercise machines, stretching areas, free weights, a weight room and staff ready to help you get the most from your workout. So that families can have a safe workout at the Y, kids ages 7-17 need to attend a fitness orientation prior to using the Fitness Center.
Members can choose from four free orientations for families and youth that teach safe and age-appropriate fitness techniques. Sign up at the member services desk at your local Y.
Free child care while you work out
When you come to work out at the YMCA, consider bringing your children along for the fun that awaits them at Kids Stuff, the Y’s child care program. Children ages six week to 10 years can participate in age-appropriate activities in a safe environment—free for members.
Reservations aren’t required, and your child can enjoy Kids Stuff for up to two hours a day while you are in the building. Check with your local Y for Kids Stuff hours.
Swim Lessons and pool fun
From free-time splashing around to structured aquatics programs, YMCA pools offer something for nearly every age and skill level, including:
- Swim Lessons for children and parents, children on their own, or adults on their own
- Specialty Classes for young swimmers
- Swim Team for ages five to 18
Visit your local Y for lesson, class and pool schedules.
Youth programs spark creativity and teach skills
The Y offers year-round programming designed to help kids discover and enjoy their passions. From arts and music to individual and team sports, there’s something for your young person to practice healthy habits.
Programs vary by location—find class and sports league schedules by location.
Camping adventures for the whole family
Camp isn’t just for kids! Family camp often coincides with school breaks—there’s a weeklong camp in the summer, or long-weekend options in the fall, winter and spring. At Camp du Nord in Ely, Minnesota, your family can enjoy age-specific activities, crafts, hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding, campfires, saunas and all that the north woods have to offer.
